Tania is a graduate of Broadcasting and Communications from the University of Monterrey, in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She worked as a professional portrait photographer for 3 years before she explored the film medium as cinematographer. She attended various film courses at UCLA, the International Film and Media Workshops in Maine and the Pittsburgh Filmmakers. During that time she also worked as a cinematographer shooting short films, video clips commercial spots and corporate videos.
As a cinematographer she maintained a close relationship with Jim Plannette who mentored her in practical and new techniques of Hollywood lighting. During that time she decided to attend the AFI Conservatory to pursue a Master Degree in Cinematography where she acquired new skills and a full understanding of the medium.
While at the AFI, she photographed different projects in Digital Video and High Definition, using edge video technology like the PANAVISION GENESIS, Sony F950R, utilizing the latest lens advances such as the Fujinons, Digi-Primes, PS-TEKNIK PRO-35 Adapter. She also worked on projects shot in Film 16mm with the Arri SRII, super 16mm with the prepped Arri SRIII, and 35mm with cameras such as the ARRI 435 and the PANAVISION GII.
Such projects extended her knowledge of the state of the art camera and lighting technologies by the leading suppliers in the market. She also gained experience in the complete filmmaking workflow from negative to print, experimenting with different film stocks and with the DI (digital intermediate). During this time she also interned in “Good Night and Good Luck” with cinematographer Robert Elswitt*. And exchanged ideas with inspiring cinematographers that attended the AFI Cinematography Workshops such as, Rodrigo Prieto, Allen Daviau, Richard Kline, Christopher Doyle and James Chressanthis. Finally she briefly mentored with Guillermo Novarro** with who she exchanged ideas during her post-graduate year at AFI.
She currently resides in Monterrey, N.L. Mexico and combines her Academic Teaching work at ITESM Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, while traveling back and fourth to Mexico City and Los Angeles to shoot various projects. This year, she was cinematographer of 13 episodes of the show “Glam Girls” that aired in Telehit Televisa Networks seen in more than 50 countries world wide, and was considered “The most important project in Mexican television industry in the last 30 years…” by Alvaro Cueva the most respected Television Critic in Mexico.
